Very cool!

Gameplay
This style of gameplay has been done before, but you've added a lot to make it stand out. Aside from the fact that you can upgrade several aspects of each weapon, not just the whole weapon itself, gives for some good strategy on how to prepare for each wave. Additionally, the fact that you can equip AND upgrade the weapons of your character... That's very cool.

Graphics
The use of red, black and white is a very simple color scheme, but given the nature of the game, you definitely did it right. In particular, the weapon effects, the portal images, and the moon in the background were very nice touches.

Sound
The sound effects work, simple gun shots or grenade lobbing. The music itself, though a bit repetitive, doesn't grind on your ears.

Summary
A very solid game, with all the right elements to make it stand out from others of this genre. Only thing that wouldn't hurt to change is the speed. Honestly, it moves way too slow, even for a strategy title. That said, final score is 4/5!

Interesting

First of all, I want to back up your comments. Who gives a crap about whether this is based off DMC or not? People can argue that Alien Hominid is nothing more than a Metal Slug rip-off, or that Alkie Kong is obviously a Donkey Kong clone, or even stretch the imagination enough to argue that Tactical Assassin is just a watered-down version of Silent Scope. Seriously, hundreds of examples exist on the internet. But the point is, what you were trying to do is a great idea, and shouldn't be criticized since it falls into the same category as at least 60% of all other Flash games out there. However, there are other points to consider. And while I normally don't write FULL reviews, I'd like to cover all that there is about this game.

Gameplay
First of all, the controls are EXTREMELY sluggish, chaining combos and switching weapons excluded. That you actually did pretty well with. But jumping feel so awkward, seeing as it's nigh impossible to steer yourself about as you come for a landing, leaving you open if you jumped too soon. The other moves such as rolling and back-flipping are a nice touch. But again, the combo system seems weird. I can just launch an enemy into the sky and keep chaining until I leave the top the of the screen, only to drop back down, unable to defend myself, and get my ass handed to me.

Sound
The music's good, and the sound effects are very good.

Graphics
The graphics are decent, but the animation seriously needs some polish. The enemies floating around don't move much, and just seem like paper target that strike back if you stand there long enough trying to remember which button to push. The animations form flipping seem a bit weird, definitely need a bit more attention to those. But, you've got them working, so polish is a point that can come in a future re-release. ;)

Story
It's good, and I like the comic-book approach to the cutscenes you used.

Challenge
There is definitely challenge in this game. Sadly, the experience is only bogged, and the challenge increased, by the controls. As I mentioned before, jumping is very sluggish, and god forbid if you get caught between two enemies and can't remember to dodge.

Summary
All in all, a very decent effort at giving the fans more of a great series. I think it was a very novel idea, but the controls might turn away some of the less dedicated players. I know I'll be striving to unlock those medals. Final score: 4/5

Very cool!

Love this game. The puzzle challenges are fun, the graphics and music are pretty cool, and trying to unlock all of the achievements can be quite addicting if you've got some time to kill.

Speaking of which, you should add the new "Medals" feature to this game. Who's with me?

I thought it was pretty good.

It was like Connect 4 meets Tempest. Interesting game mechanics.

Only thing I noticed was the frame rate was a bit laggy. Given this is a puzzle game, and you should plan out the strategy. But the slowness of the dropping pieces was a bit distracting for me.

Anyway, 4/5, 8/10. Nice job!

Something different.

I liked it. The controls were pretty simple, the gameplay is pretty easy once you got the pattern down, and the humor of trying not to be squashed by a strawberry was great fun.

Thanks for the instructions this time around, too. On v1.0 of the game, I couldn't figure out why the strawberry wasn't going anywhere when I was standing in front of the cake. Your choice of music was also both interesting and enjoyable. 5/5 10/10!

Very cool!

Seriously, folks. It's not hard to figure this thing out. The instructions are in the Author Comments, and you can even use the mouse if you're daring enough. I like it a lot, though I would prefer something be done about the framerate - the timing of the sounds is off a little bit.

Definitely a worthy addition to the Christmas collection. Hopefully this thing will be polished soon so that it can be enjoyed the way you intended. 5/5, 10/10. Kudos to you!

Useful!

Everyone has to start somewhere in Flash. And while this is a basic lesson that I learned back in my beginnings with Flash, it was definitely something I had to dig around for.

You're certainly helping out some newcomers to the program so they won't have to dig around for this. Like the guy below me said, an AS3 version would especially be handy.
